Robert Kraft Says Patriots Would Be Open to Tom Brady Contract Extension

In the least surprising development of Super Bowl week, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft would like to work out a contract extension with Tom Brady

Per ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss, Kraft would have no hesitation about giving the 41-year-old another extension on his deal that is set to expire after the 2019 season.

“Think about it: The last three years we’ve been privileged to go to the Super Bowl with a quarterback in place,” Kraft said. “I would be quite surprised if he didn’t continue for quite a while as our quarterback.”

The last time Brady went through negotiations with the Patriots, he agreed to a restructured contract in August worth $15 million per season and included a variety of performance-based incentive bonuses.

Brady has given the Patriots bargain deals relative to his fellow QBs throughout his career. The three-time NFL MVP had the 11th-highest cap hit among quarterbacks in 2018 at $22 million, behind players like Jimmy Garoppolo ($37 million), Derek Carr ($25 million) and Eli Manning ($22.2 million).

Despite his age, Brady told ESPN.com’s Jeff Darlington there is a “zero” percent chance he will retire regardless of the Patriots’ outcome in Super Bowl LIII against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

There’s no reason for Brady to consider walking away right now. He’s playing in his third straight Super Bowl and has thrown for 691 yards in two wins over the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs this postseason.
