Trial & Error officially canceled at NBC

Oh, Reed! In news that should upset all fans of brilliantly stupid comedy, the legal docu-spoof Trial & Error is officially not getting a season 3 at NBC. The series followed an overly-earnest attorney from New York named Josh Segal (Nicholas D’Agosto), who relocated to the small, very peculiar town of East Peck, South Carolina to defend Larry Henderson (John Lithgow), a roller-skating poetry professor accused of killing his wife. Helping — or, most of the time, hindering — Josh in his efforts to defend his clients are Anne Flatch (Sherri Shepherd), a researcher who suffers from a series of odd conditions (facial amnesia, the “jumping Frenchman of Maine”), and dimwitted East Peck PD officer Dwayne Reed (Steven Boyer).

Season 2 premiered in July of last year, with Kristin Chenoweth joining the cast as Lavinia Peck-Foster, East Peck’s wealthy and beloved grande dame who is put on trial for the murder of her diminutive husband.

A source says that Warner Bros. Television, which produces Trial & Error, shopped the show around after NBC’s option to renew the comedy expired last fall, but so far there are no takers. The studio is said to be open to finding a new home for the show, so your move, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, Crackle, or literally any other service willing to spare this goofy series from oblivion. (Currently some episodes are available to stream on Hulu.)
