Are you ready for “The Next 10 Minutes Ago?”
As part of the new “R&H Goes Pop!” YouTube series, Broadway stars Jeremy Jordan and Laura Osnes have recorded a mashup of love duet “10 Minutes Ago” from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and “The Next 10 Minutes” from Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, which you can see in the exclusive clip above.
Jordan and Osnes both have a personal connection to the material, with Osnes having portrayed Cinderella in the recent revival of the classic musical and Jordan appearing in the film adaptation of The Last Five Years opposite Anna Kendrick. They crafted this unique mash-up for a concert a few years back, but this is the first official recording of it. It features arrangements by Benjamin Rauhala and Kurt Crowley.
“The role of Cinderella will always be near and dear to my heart, and Jeremy and I love any excuse to collaborate,” Osnes said in a statement. “A few years ago, for a concert, we crafted and performed this beautiful mashup showcasing two duets from roles we each have played. I love the way it brings a modern twist to the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, ‘Ten Minutes Ago.’ Jeremy and I were so excited to reunite and finally record it, thanks to R&H Goes Pop!”
This marks the second video in the new “R&H Goes Pop!” series, which seeks to preserve the legacy of composers Rodgers & Hammerstein by having artists reinterpret their greatest classics in a more contemporary light. The series coincides with the 75th anniversary of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, Oklahoma. The first video in the series was Jordan performing a new arrangement of Oklahoma’s “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’.”
“Working with Laura on this Rodgers & Hammerstein/Jason Robert Brown mashup was so much fun,” Jordan added. “We loved reimagining the Cinderella tune with a The Last Five Years flair — if Ella met Jaime. We hope you love it, too!”
The video series will continue throughout the year with many more artists reimagining Rodgers & Hammerstein songs in new styles. Gavin Creel, Ariana DeBose, Derek Klena, Ashley Park, Anthony Rapp, Katrina Lenk, and Andy Mientus are among those announced to feature in upcoming videos with more names still to come.
