Jessica Chastain teases horror’s bloodiest scene is coming in It: Chapter Two

Pennywise the demented clown will return in It: Chapter Two, and he’s apparently bringing one of, if not the bloodiest scene to ever appear in a horror movie. That’s according to one of its stars, Jessica Chastain.

“I’m gonna say something and I think I’m gonna be in trouble but I’m gonna do it,” the actress, 41, told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Wednesday. “It might be a spoiler, but in the movie there’s a scene that someone said on set that it’s the most blood that’s ever been in a horror film in a scene.”

There was so much blood used that Chastain said, “The next day I was pulling [fake] blood out of my eyeballs.”

Might the scene be something we’ve already glimpsed, at least in part?

It: Chapter Two adapts the second half of Stephen King’s It novel, picking up years after the events of the first film when the kids in The Losers’ Club return to their hometown as adults to finish off Pennywise. Chastain plays the adult version of Beverly Marsh, portrayed by Sophia Lillis in 2017’s It, and director Andy Muschietti showed an image from the set in September of the actress coated in fake blood.

“She’s soooo happy when she can smear her fake blood on me,” Muschietti wrote on Instagram.

Joining Chastain in the adult cast are James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Bill Hader as Richie Tozier, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, Andy Bean as Stan Uris, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon.

“It’s scary, man,” Chastain remarked of the film. “I love the scary stuff, but it’s more fun to be the scary person than the one getting scared.”

It: Chapter Two is scheduled for theaters on Sep. 6.
