Meet Chloe Flower, Cardi B’s Grammys performance piano player

Cardi B’s performance at the 61st annual Grammy Awards flawlessly crossed genres from classical to hardcore rap with a little help from a fierce pianist named Chloe Flower.

The 33-year-old musician made her scene-stealing Grammys debut during Sunday night’s telecast, providing key-based backing for the reigning queen of rap, who writhed her body atop Flower’s crystal-encrusted piano as they collaborated on a fiery rendition of Cardi’s 2018 single “Money.”

Flower’s rise to prominence began with her attending the Juilliard School. She signed with Def Jam Records (under the guidance of Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds) in 2011, which led to high-profile gigs recording with the likes of Celine Dion, Timbaland, and Nas before she scored ads for brands like Levi’s and Nike — most of which highlight her penchant for blending contemporary beats with classical influences, much like she did during Cardi’s Grammy number.

Flower also composed the music for the 2015 documentary A Ballerina’s Tale about trailblazing ballerina Misty Copeland and provided a unique classical score for Mike Epps’ Netflix comedy special Don’t Take It Personal.

In addition to her accomplishments in film and music — most of which can be found on her Spotify page — Flower is a steady philanthropist dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking and rescuing children from sex slavery.

For more on Flower’s music and philanthropy, visit her website (which indicates her debut album is coming soon).
