NBC has prescribed some more episodes for New Amsterdam.
The network announced Monday that it has renewed the hospital drama for a second season. The series — which stars Ryan Eggold as a doctor who is given the formidable challenge of running one of country’s oldest public hospitals in New York — launched strongly in the post-This Is Us slot in September. By early October, the network had ordered nine more episodes, giving the show a full season of 22 episodes.
New Amsterdam currently stands as the No. 2-ranked new scripted series of the season in the coveted demo of 18-to-49-year-old viewers with a 2.5 rating, while averaging nearly 12 million viewers per episode when factoring in a week of DVR playback. It is also the first of NBC’s new series to snag a renewal for next season.
The show, which is loosely based on the career of Dr. Eric Manheimer and his memoir Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital, also stars Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine.
