NFL Trade Rumors: Antonio Brown Doesn’t Interest Broncos; ‘Not Worth the Price’

Fans can cross the Denver Broncos off the list of teams that may try to acquire Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown

Mike Klis of 9News in Denver reported Monday the Broncos “are NOT—and have not been” in pursuit of Brown this offseason. Klis added Brown was “not worth the price” for Denver.

CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora reported in January that Brown had requested a trade from the Steelers, while the seven-time Pro Bowler sent a farewell tweet to Steelers fans in February:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday the Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans were showing the most interest in Brown. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport followed up Monday to report the Broncos, Raiders and Arizona Cardinals were “among the teams who have appeared the most intrigued.”

Rapoport added the Steelers should be able to trade Brown by March 17, when he’s due a $2.5 million roster bonus.

The Broncos have nearly $34.5 million in available salary-cap space this offseason, according to Over the Cap. But even if they cut costs elsewhere, Brown’s $22.165 million cap hit would limit what they could do in free agency.

The Broncos might also envision making Courtland Sutton a bigger part of their passing game in 2019. A second-round pick in 2018, Sutton had 42 receptions for 704 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie.

Denver clearly has lofty goals for next season, as evidenced by its agreement with the Baltimore Ravens to acquire veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, per Schefter. While Brown could be an impact addition for the Broncos, his contract—as well as whatever compensation the Steelers would require for him—might be too rich for their tastes.
