Rachel Brosnahan isn’t the only marvelous one.
On Sunday night, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Tony Shalhoub won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
While accepting his award, Shalhoub took the time to pay tribute to one of his fellow nominees. “I just want to start by saying that the greatest honor of my life is to be nominated in the same category with Alan Arkin, who has long been an idol of mine and I’m happy to say a friend,” he shared. “But I think he was the reason I wanted to become an actor in the first place.”
After previously winning three times in this category for his memorable run on Monk, the 65-year-old actor now takes home the trophy for starring on Maisel as Abe Weissman, a mathematics professor who’s constantly flummoxed by his aspiring comedian daughter Miriam, played by Brosnahan, who won the SAG Award for Female Actor in a Comedy Series. The entire cast then won Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
To win the honor, Shalhoub beat out Barry duo Henry Winkler and Bill Hader, as well as The Kominsky Method stars Arkin and Michael Douglas.
